Shelbourne Confirm Three Signings
The Club this afternoon confirmed three more signings ahead of the 2010 season - and the pre-season friendly with Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght on Friday night.
The New Signings are Ian Ryan and Philip Gorman, while Ray Scully re-signs.
Ian Ryan. A right full or centre half, Ryan is considered to be a hard-working player who is strong in the tackle and good on the ball.
He first played in the League of Ireland with Kilkenny City for the first part of the 2004 season. He signed with Waterford United in the July ‘window’ and stayed on Suirside until going ‘on loan’ to Shamrock Rovers in July 2005. He was signed by Rovers at the start of the 2006 season. A loan period at Longford Town followed in July 2007 to season’s end.
Dundalk manager John Gill stepped in to sign the out-of-contract Ryan at the start of the 2008 season, but having made 26 league appearances, which helped the ‘lilywhites’ win promotion to the Premier Division that season, Ryan were released by the border club. He joined local rivals Drogheda United at the start of the 2009 season and made 27 league appearances for them that season.
Philip Gorman. Striker ‘Philly’ Gorman spent a season and a half with Kildare County before joining Kilkenny City in July 2003. The start of the 2005 season saw Gorman sign for Dublin City until he went on United Nations duty with the Irish Army. On his return, he joined Kildare County once more until joining Shelbourne in July 2008.
He made his debut for his new team as a second half substitute in the away game to Monaghan United on July 29th. His first start for Shelbourne was in a 3-3 draw with Athlone Town three days later. He played in nine league games for the Reds, scoring twice before being released at the end of the season.
Ray Scully. Central midfielder Scully started his career with Shelbourne before moving to Kildare County and Dublin City. Ray won promotion with Dublin City under Dermot Keely in 2005 and played in the play-off victory over Shamrock Rovers. Ironically, Scully then moved to the side that he had just helped relegate when he was signed by Pat Scully at the start of the 2006 season.
July 2006 saw Scully join Dundalk and at the end of the season he joined Waterford United where he appeared in 25 league games during the 2007 season. Having been released by the Blues at the end of that season, he dropped out of senior football until joining Shelbourne in July 2009.
The 17 players signed so far are:- Dean Delany, Steve Williams, Stephen Quigley, Gareth Whelan, Ian Ryan, Kevin Doherty, Sean Byrne, Robbie Clarke, Ray Scully, David Cassidy, David McGill, Paul Shiels, Colin O'Brien, Eric Foley, Philip Gorman, Dinny Corcoran and Andy Haran.
A couple more signings are expected before the start of the season and details will be brought to you as soon as they are confirmed.
