Following the completion of his season long loan period at Waterford United, James Chambers returned to Shelbourne at the start of the 2007 season. He will have benefited from regular Premier Division football, lining out with the Suirsiders.

James is one of Shelbourne's Under-Age setup's success stories, having played with Shelbourne Schoolboys since he was 11 years of age. He made his breakthrough in the 2005 season, playing in three games for the senior side.

He was capped at Under 21He has also been capped at underage level and was nominated for the FAI Schools player of the year for 2005.
